Tim Lincecum and the NL Cy Young Award

I know this Blog is about the Detroit Tigers, but when a play from my favorite National League team, the San Francisco Giants, wins a major award I just have to write about it. For those of you who do not know here is some information about Tim Licncecum:

  • Full Name: Timothy LeRoy Lincecum
  • Born: 06/15/1984
  • Birthplace: Bellevue, WA
  • Height: 5′ 11″
  • Weight: 170
  • Bats: Left
  • Throws: Right
  • College: Washington
  • MLB Debut: 05/06/2007
  • 2008 ERA: 262
  • 2008 Win-Loss: 18-2
  • 2008 Saves: 0
  • 2008 Strike Outs: 265

With those stats 24 year old Tim Lincecum of the San Francisco Giants won the Cy Young Award for the National League on Tuesday November 11, 2008. According to http://mlb.com/:

Lincecum received 23 of 32 first-place votes, seven second-place votes and one third-place vote for 137 points, which were assigned on a 5-3-1 basis. He outdistanced Arizona’s Brandon Webb (73 points), the New York Mets‘ Johan Santana (55), Philadelphia’s Brad Lidge (10), Milwaukee’s CC Sabathia (9) and the Chicago Cubs’ Ryan Dempster (4).”

I’ve watched Tim pitch and I can say he deserved this award and I hope he does it again next year. Congratulations Tim on both the Cy Young award and the video game cover.
